About Me

My name is Haley. I’m 24 years old (how did that happen?) and I live on the Gulf Coast. I’m a speech-language pathologist at a skilled nursing facility (i.e., I get yelled at by old people all day). I graduated from the University of South Alabama with my Master’s degree about a year ago.

I’ve always dreamed of decorating my own house, so when I moved back to my hometown and rented a cute little cottage (that may or may not be a couple houses down from my mom’s house) I was so excited to get started decorating. It’s been a slow process since I have to spend time doing silly stuff like my job, but it’s coming along. The main theme of my blog here is decorating, but I really just write about whatever I want.

I write a lot about adventures I go on with this gentleman (Aaron, the boyfriend of 4ish years):

Like any exciting 20-something couple, we spend our time doing wild and crazy things like going to the Goodwill on a very regular basis and binge watching shows on Netflix. Either that or I lay on the floor of his office reading books while he plays videogames on his computer. He lives about an hour away from me, so we only see each other on the weekends.

If we’re going to be friends, here’s what you should know:

-I’m terrible at making introductions. I’m working on it. I also need to learn how to stay in touch with friends better.

-I have a garage full of Goodwill finds and unfinished house projects.

-I may not have followed my true calling in life, but I’m hoping it works out eventually.

-I sometimes climb stairs on all fours like a wild animal.

-I don’t wash my hair or shave my legs as often as I should.

-When Aaron asks me to do something that I don’t want to do, I sometimes pretend I have narcolepsy.

-I have a little butler statue in my bathroom that holds my toilet paper. I think he’s a hilarious conversation piece, but everyone else thinks he’s creepy. His name is Rhett (…Butler…Rhett Butler – get it?)

-I really want some chickens in my backyard one day. Not a ton. Just like 1 or 2.

-If I could be best friends with any fictional character it would be Christy Miller from the book series by Robin Jones Gunn. I’ve never talked to anyone else who loves these books as much as I do, so if you do let me know. We will be best friends.

-The boyfriend and I watch TV very differently. I get INVESTED and he doesn’t understand why I can’t start watching new shows all the time. “I’m sorry Aaron. I just can’t start watching House of Cards right now. I know I’ve heard it’s really good, but I’m still recovering from the season finale of Downton Abbey. I need time to recover.”

-I only drive if I’m going somewhere by myself.

-I don’t wear a lot of jewelry. It’s the first thing to come off when I get home. I just can’t get comfortable with jewelry on.

-I hate putting clean laundry away…sometimes I have baskets of clean clothes sitting around my room for so long that I’m pretty sure I need an intervention.

-There are movies that I like as much as Jurassic Park, but no movies that I like more than Jurassic Park.

-I drink too much sweet tea.

-I have uterine didelphys (double cervix only, so don’t look at me funny after you google it).

Things I love:

-Harry Potter

-every book I have read by Robin Jones Gunn

-Taylor Swift

-Pretty Little Liars

-the idea of working out

-the feeling I get after I work out

-listening to the radio on scan on long car rides

-discovering new blogs

-watching the Bachelor/Bachelorette

-dancing in my kitchen

-sliding on the floor in socks

-wandering around stores with a Chickfila sweet tea

-getting absorbed in a good book or tedious craft project

-seeing Aaron on Fridays with a whole weekend ahead of us

-antique stores

-roller skating

-jumping on trampolines

-learning hula hoop tricks

-eating at new restaurants

-going to see plays and musicals

-the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (you should see my jump split)

-any movie centered around a beauty pageant

  2. Nice blog! Chocolate peanut butter smoothie sounds soooo good. Unfortunately my boyfriend is allergic to peanut butter so I never buy it.

  5. I love that you make lists! I made a whole list of 100 things I love, and I think some of yours were on mine! Definitely the going to see plays and musicals one 😉

  6. Hi Haley!

I’m currently looking for CFY positions for after my graduation from Abilene Christian this upcoming May (2015), and I came across your post of awesome advice for the whole process. Afterwards, I read your About Me page and HOLY COW I’ve never met someone else who has read the Christy Miller series! We must be kindred spirits, and I actually read the first couple books of the series about her best friend, Katie Weldon. That book series brings back only good memories! (:

    • Definitely kindred spirits! I love everything by Robin Jones Gunn, but especially the Christy Miller series. She actually just released (or is about to release) a new Christy Miller series about her and Todd as an adult married couple. I”m probably going to order that soon! Good luck with the rest of grad school. I know how grueling it can be. I’ve been thinking of writing another post about my first SLP job and other advice related to that! I’ve got to get back into the swing of writing again.
      Thanks for reading 🙂
